When Ford decided to get involved in NHRA drag racing back in 2007 they contacted Jim Ronzello who is their former employee and ex-race car driver. The purpose of the meeting was that Ford wanted him to build a not street legal factory drag strip car and this is where the story of this beast began. The first 2 cars were a hard top and a convertible, so Jim's 2008 Mustang Cobra Jet prototype is the very first drop top race car.
