Today we are going to take a look at one very rare example of the second generation Cougars. This Competition Blue 1971 Mercury Cougar XR7 is a very well preserved survivor that lives in the American Muscle Car Museum (AMCM) in Florida.
While the first generation Cougars were pony or muscle cars if you will, in 1971 Mercury decided to step their game up and compete with the luxury automobiles of that time. But the bigger Cats also came with bigger engines. This XR7 Cougar is powered by Ford’s mighty 429 Cobra Jet, and as you will see it has no problem setting the tires on fire.
