Those of you who followed the drag racing scene back in its glorious days will probably recognize both the car and the man in the middle. The Sox & Martin Plymouth Duster that won the 1970 NHRA US Nationals in Pro Stock class with Herb McCandless behind the wheel.
Mr. McCandless spent many years at the drag strips, and after his retirement he became an engine builder. People who bought parts of him will tell you he always had some spare time to share his knowledge. Herb McCandless is a pillar of the Mopar community, a living legend.
His son did something amazing for him during the 2020 Mopar Nats in Carlisle. A gift that he really deserved, an exact replica of the Sox & Martin 1970 Plymouth Duster SS/AFX, which changed Herb McCandless life forever. Play the SSandAFX video to see this great story.
