The mid-70s were an exciting time for Mopar lovers, and one rare gem from that era was the Dodge Hang 10 Dart. Built for only a year and a half, the Hang 10 is a unique addition to the Dodge family, a limited edition model that captured the spirit of the times.
One proud owner of this iconic car is Carl Reid, who purchased his Dodge Dart from the original owner in 1991. It still had the factory shag carpet, console, and rally wheels, all part of the Hang 10 package, but the car was in rough shape at the time and didn't even run. With the help of his son Andrew and several good friends, he set out to restore it inside and out.
The restoration process took about five years and involved rebuilding many of the vehicle's components, including the entire drivetrain. The dash and seats were also redone, much of the glass was replaced, and the car was repainted to restore its original shine. The vehicle also boasts factory air conditioning, a 318 engine, a 904 automatic transmission, and the beautiful Swimsuit interior, another unique option.
The Hang 10's name is a nod to the surfing culture, with "Hang 10" referring to standing with ten toes over the surfboard while riding a wave. The Dodge Hang 10 Dart was designed to embody the spirit of this carefree and adventurous lifestyle. This is reflected in the car's design and graphics, as you can see in the picture.
Since completing the restoration, the car has been in many shows and has won numerous awards thanks to its rare status and stunning appearance. Carl and Esther try to drive it as much as possible and plan on keeping it for many more years.
The couple’s dedication to restoring and preserving this rare car is a testament to the enduring appeal of classic American muscle cars and the passion and enthusiasm of Mopar lovers. Hear more of this beautiful Dodge Dart in the If This Car Could Talk's video below.
